Everyday Wellness Guide

Forget the 47-step morning routines. These are the daily habits with the strongest evidence behind them.

Stress: manage the load

Chronic stress is physical, not just mental. What reliably helps in studies: regular exercise, time outdoors, social connection, and brief daily breathing or meditation practice (even 5–10 minutes).

Hydration: simpler than the internet says

Thirst plus pale-yellow urine is a good enough gauge for most healthy people. Water needs rise with heat, exercise, and illness. Most people don't need electrolyte products outside long, sweaty workouts.

Sun: protect, don't fear

Daily SPF 30+ on face and exposed skin, reapplied for extended time outdoors, meaningfully cuts skin cancer risk. Get any new, changing, or oddly shaped mole checked.

Alcohol and tobacco: the honest math

No amount of smoking is safe, and quitting pays off at any age (free help: 1-800-QUIT-NOW). For alcohol, current guidance is at most 1 drink/day for women, 2 for men — and less is better.

Connection: the overlooked vital sign

Strong social ties are associated with longer life in study after study — comparable in effect size to quitting smoking. Loneliness is worth treating like a health issue.
